OUTREACH MINISTRIES –

THE COMPASSIONS OF CHRIST

Matthew 9:35 And Jesus was going about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.

:36 And seeing the multitudes, he felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast like sheep without a shepherd.

At the beginning of this chapter we see Jesus ministering to needs, as he did on a regular basis.  He healed the paralytic in verses 1-8.  Later, in verses 18-26 Jesus raises Jairus' daughter from the dead.  We later see in this same chapter, Jesus setting a person free from demonic influence.   Everywhere Jesus turned and in every city needs were always present.  People recognized that He was the one common answer to a variety of questions and problems that plagued them.  In chapter 14 He feeds the 5,000, along with an additional 4,000 in chapter 15.  Through these miracles we see Christ's compassion as it was ministered to the whole man; physically, mentally, financially, and spiritually.

His desire was setting people free from the oppression of their sin and breaking down barriers that kept people from an experience with God.  He came to speak for those who could not speak for themselves.  His heart was filled with compassion for the poor and needy.

Proverbs 31:8  says, “Open your mouth for the dumb.  For the rights of all the unfortunate.

:9  Open your mouth, judge righteously, and defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.

Within the fabric of our church is a heart to reach out to the poor and needy, our desire is to allow the compassion of Christ to flow through us in our outreach ministries.

We currently have three vital outreaches:

  • Food Pantry run by Paul Metcalf
  • Clothing Ministry run by James & Florence Mason
  • C.A.R.R. Central Addictions Recovery & Restoration run by Pastor Steve Turner

As a result of these ministries, we have seen individuals experience a personal encounter with Christ's compassion.
